At Bonterre we regularly provide placements for Occupational Therapy students, working to support people of all ages to overcome challenges and live their best life. The farm provides a great opportunity to put their learning into practice! Some recent students have written a post about their time with us which we’d love to share!
“We are occupational therapy students who have recently completed our placement at Bonterre. We have been able to take part in supporting the children throughout the many activities the farm has to offer on a daily basis. This has ranged from animal care tasks to cooking lunch for everyone to arts and crafts activities such as glass jar painting and making sun-catchers. From an occupational therapy perspective this has helped us learn about different interventions and the positive impact they have on the children who attend Bonterre.
As nervous students on our first day of placement we were greeted by friendly smiles and a supportive and caring team, who were always there to help us learn. This placement has given us the opportunity to think about and view occupational therapy in a non-clinical setting. We have been able to work on our communication skills with a wide range of children and adults, observe performance components that occur during tasks and gather feedback to improve our learning.
We have really enjoyed spending time with the children at Bonterre alongside the staff (and the animals)! And we both feel we have learnt so much that we can implement into our roles as future occupational therapists.”
