Person-Centred Counselling at Bonterre
Hi, my name is Abbie. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist (BSc Hons, MSc). I work as a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have experience working with adults, young people, children and SEN. I am currently offering counselling to anyone, including adults, young people and children. Please feel free to enquire about counselling at [email protected] or by using the form included below.
I know it can be hard to reach out to others for support and to find someone who will regularly listen. Especially someone who understands how complex and difficult life can get. My aim is for you to feel comfortable knowing that when you meet me, I am a non-judgemental, empathetic human being who you can relate to and feel supported by.
Starting or returning to counselling can feel overwhelming but I’m here to offer a welcoming space where you are valued, heard and able to be yourself. Taking care of your mind and heart is just as important as anything else in life.

My Approach
I like to work in a person-centred way. I believe that each person is different and what works for every individual varies. Some sessions might be farm-based and include activities such as animal care, horse walking, walk and talk, crafts, or sitting beside a campfire. Some weeks you might prefer to sit inside with a warm drink, or stay at home and have a video or phone call instead. We can figure out together what the best approach is for you or the child within your care.
I always work collaboratively with clients, where the session is open to direction. However, I like to include psychotherapeutic theories, to support my clients in developing a deeper understanding of self and others.
I believe that we can all expand our growth but what we need is the time set aside and the conditions to feel safe enough to explore what might be holding us back.
My Experience
My experience to date has covered working with adults, children and young people with a wide range of complex mental health and general well-being needs.
Areas I can help with include and are not limited to:
Personal Perspective
I believe that a valuable aspect for counsellors to really understand what it means to go through emotionally difficult situations is for them to have lived through similar experiences. As a counsellor, I am able to draw on my own past and have witnessed the impact of mental health within myself and my loved ones.
Professionals are humans too and I feel that these complex experiences have enabled me to develop empathy and a better understanding of my clients’ journey. Counselling sessions are beneficial for gaining perspective and developing coping strategies, some of which I still use today.

Whether it’s about complicated issues or simply someone to talk to and have a break from daily life, therapy looks different for everyone but we can figure it out together.
