Introducing The Barn!
A New Era for Cooking at Bonterre!
This year Bonterre was proud to announce the opening of our new kitchen and indoor space. Over the past few months the way that Bonterre prepares, serves and enjoys food with all of our students and visitors has undergone some major, and extremely positive, changes. When construction began in January of this year, the kitchen space on the farm was still very much a remenant of previous years. Whilst still a functional, educational and often times fun space, we had increasingly found that the kitchen seemed to be missing exactly that; space! With an upward growth in the number students, staff, volunteers and an increasing number of school and university visits, the old kitchen struggled to accomodate today’s Bonterre.
This is where The Barn has made all the difference! We are now able to conduct cooking sessions and courses to large groups, with enough space to accomodate groups of children and adults alike. Furthermore, for smaller groups who may find busy spaces difficult, The Barn has fostered a calming, less constricted space, allowing those who may have struggled before to experience and learn about food preparation.
Alongside our alternate provision students we have shared the cooking space with Home Ed groups, university dietitians, a ministry conference, college, primary and secondary school classes to name but a few.
The Barn also holds a large dining/ conference space. This multi-use space has so far hosted community sessions, awards ceremonies, workshops, training sessions, local scout groups and much much more.
Finally, we would like to say a massive thank you to all those who donated towards our fundraising for this building. You have made a huge difference and enabled us to continue to provide a safe, calm and welcoming space to those who visit us every week and those who visit us for a one-off workshop session alike.
