Our therapeutic group work may last from a few weeks to much longer depending on the student’s needs. These sessions are designed specifically for children struggling with a classroom setting, those with SEN or disabilities, or children with behavioural problems. Students work in groups of up to four with two members of staff who provide intensive support and help with a range of social and emotional skills as well as helping children to improve their resilience and self confidence.
The sessions are very flexible and aimed at achieving pre-agreed Learning Outcomes. Typically sessions are made up of a mix of craft, nature and horticultural activities and make use of English, maths and science skills. Lunch is provided and children are often involved in the preparation of the meal, which is eaten together with the staff. Students learn how to take turns in speaking, listen to each other and praise others during the mealtime conversation.
